Triumph Motorcycles
Masters Year Project
-
Collaborating with Triumph Motorcycles on my final year project to design and develop a reliable test method and specialized equipment for consistently and accurately measuring spoke tension, aimed at integration into their quality control processes.
-
The development process included:
Conducting extensive research to identify the most effective methods for measuring spoke tension.
Testing the shortlisted measurement methods to evaluate their feasibility for use in a manufacturing environment.
Measuring spoked wheels to determine their average tension and establishing quality control limits for implementation on the production line.
-
After validating that measuring the frequency generated by an impact on the spoke was the most reliable method, the focus shifted to developing an efficient and repeatable mechanical testing system. Additionally, custom software was designed to calculate the impact frequency and provide clear pass/fail feedback to the quality control engineer.
